A step forward....literally

Well today's training session with peaches went really well. I got the halter on BY myself....It only took like 15 minutes! BUT I did it and that is all that matters. I got her isolated in the pen to work on her. She walked more than she stood still so that is an improvement. I got her to walk quite a few circles with me without too many pauses (when she plants her feet to the ground and wont budge). When she "pauses" i pull her head around by the halter and push her hind end over so she HAS to move. Not sure if this is the correct way to do things, but it gets her to keep walking with me :). She did have some spasy jumpy throwing her head moments today, but I think she is starting to realize that I don't like that crap! One of my BIGGEST pet peeves about horses, is if they pull on you while you are walking. I hate it, so when she starts to jump around and being stupid I automatically click on the "I HATE THAT" mode and do a quick jerk on the halter and she'll stop. (and no it doesnt hurt her, I wouldn't do that). I'm gonna go out tomorrow and do the same thing I did today....Brandi is gonna go out with me. It really is impossible to go out by yourself and expect to get ahold of your cow and THEN get it by itself! ha! Anyways more updates soon. OH and she looked AB FAB in her new halter :)

Peaches halter...made by moi :)

Three halters all in a row :)

YEAH for peaches!!

I caught her today, with the help of 3 others, AND got a halter on her, and walked her around. She did GREAT. I was alittle surprised it was so easy, but we have been visiting a lot lately, so that probably helps. They only have 3 halters at witter, so me and Marie went and bought some 3cord 1/2inch rope. And because the person that is supposed to show us HOW to make them isnt going to be here till atleast NEXT week, i taught myself how to do it with a chart that i found online. Yes I am very resourceful. Tomorrow I will go out after my lesson and play with her some more *gring* so exciting. She is doing so much better very quickly!

On a sad note, i didnt get AVC, i guess one of the girls decided not to leave (not graduating) so...bleh. Whatever, I'll live. Well till tomorrow....

Peaches the cow.....the saga continues

So she got hurt really bad, so is terrified of people. Just figures! They put her back in with about 12 other heifers...exciting... so its really hard to do anything with her with all of them in there. All but 4 of them will fit in head ties, so atleast i can reduce the number i have to deal with. It took three of us to corner her the other day so that I could just pet her and show her i wasnt going to hurt her. It worked out ok. Not the way i would like to do it, but thats how i have to do it :(. anyways I am also on a quest to figure out what she will eat as treats. so far she will NOT eat the following: peeps, sugar cubes, gingersnaps, or Carbwell peanut butter bars. Not like i really blame her though. Hopefully our next session will go better :). I'll go see her wednesday, thursday, friday, and Sat. hopefully by then she will let me put a halter on her. We have to work quick! I only have till April 30th to have her walk WITH me on a lead and stop and go on my command.......so we shall see just how smart my cow is :)

Peaches the cow

Well my little heifer Peaches got hurt last week while I was home for spring break. She had somehow gotten her head caught in the headtrap thingie and it locked on itself??? odd yes but oh well. She thrashed around all night, and cut her self up, and such. So she has been in her own little paddock with LOTS of fresh shavings and hay, and being royally spoiled! ha! so she is doing better. I hope to get some pictures of her soon so I can show her off. We begin training this week!!! YIPPEE! I've never trained a cow so this shall be interesting. I wonder if I can teach her to bow? hehehe she will be the envy of the AVS class ha!
